Thanksgiving!

We always start November by making a Thankful Turkey.  We hang this up and write things that we are thankful for throughout the entire month.  It is fun to think up new things, see the things that repeat and focus on the things we are thankful for.  You can see Elizabeth's list written/colored on the bottom.

I am thankful for my family; for my beautiful children and loving husband. I am thankful for the gospel and for the guidance and motivation it gives me to become more like Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the many temporal blessings I have; a wonderful home, food, Ben's job, shoes, ect.  I am grateful for health, beauty, knowledge and love.  I am grateful for so much and I am so glad that we get to spend an entire month focusing on what we are grateful for before getting another month to serve others and focus on our Savior.

The day before Thanksgiving (November 25) is PIE DAY!! On this day we make all of our pies for Thanksgiving.  Elizabeth helped me make a Chocolate Candy Bar Pie and an apple pie; we always do a recipe that has a crumble top and you cook the pie in a bag. I also make a cheese cake and Ben mad two pumpkin pies; trying two different recipes for a taste test.

James was a great pie making helper through the entire day.

We woke up Thanksgiving morning to a chilly snow.  The Annual Louisville Turkey Trot was going on and we enjoyed sitting inside our warm house, drinking hot chocolate and waving to the runners.

We went to the Newson's for dinner and my parents and Grandma Baker came over. Elizabeth helped Rachel make the rolls and enjoyed watching the Macy Day Parade before dinner. We had a delicious meal and it was wonderful having family together. Elizabeth loved having all of her grandparents together.

The Newson's have a tradition that there has to be a pie per person on Thanksgiving.  The Newson's made a lemon, cherry, raselberry and a piecaken (a cherry pie baked into a chocolate cake).  Mom made a chocolate pecan pie, butter finger pie and key lime.  Add that to the apple, cheesecake, two pumpkin and candy bar pies and we had 12 pies!! They were delicious and provided a huge sugar overload.  And to add to the sugar overload, Dad taught Elizabeth the art of whipped cream in the mouth.

Because we had SO MUCH pie,  we had a Pie Party with our friends on Friday.  It was fun to eat pie (they brought some- I am sure they didn't believe we had so much) and see everyone.
