Fairie Festival and Taste of Louisville

Our area has a lot of fun festivals and street fairs in the summer; on June 7 the entire family went to some.  Mom and Dad were watching Mat and Andi's kids for the weekend** and Erica's family came down for the fun.

We first went to the Lafayette Fairie Festival; so the little girls could see fairies and get their faces painted.  It was SO WEIRD; I was expecting it to be a little 'Renaissance Fair'- esk and maybe a little eccentric but I was not expecting what we got.  There were things the kids could do at each tent, live music and there were fairies flying- what could be bad about that? It looked homemade (but not well) by a bunch of overzealous fairy enthusiasts on 'something' other than happiness and it was set up in a small dirt lot with a handful of tents.  There were a lot of costumes from a leprechaun, a dragon, pirates, princesses, street wenches, and, of course, fairies.  Most of the fairy costumes looked like a women's excuse to wear a corset (some looked like lingerie) with a tutu, a ton of make-up and wings. There were some cool parts; like a group of high school level actors that put on a play with sword fighting and a 'real' mermaid that the girls got to see (it was a little magic to a 1 year old).

We then went to the Taste of Louisville, which is a street fair down Main Street in Louisville where there are a lot of booths and, what the kids were excited about, free stuff.  There were food carts, advertisement booths, entertainment/advertisement booths, craft booths (Rachel and Nedra were there with their beautiful jewelry) and some live entertainment. We got free fondue, free cake and free cookies and free snow cones- the kids were on a sugar high.  The kids got to break a board in half with their hand (I did it with my forehead- I'm awesome) and did jump rope competitions.  It was hectic and exhausting but very fun!!

** Mom and Dad watched Mat and Andi's kids for the weekend while they went to Arizona for a job interview (they got it, they are moving- tear).  I got to have the kids spend the first night with me; we saw 'The Sandlot' at the Movies-in-the-Park. And of course we went to the Sweet Cow!  Later I went swimming with Wyatt, Gwyn and Elizabeth- it was fun but hard to watch all those little ones in the water (thanks Mom for helping with that one).  It was so much to have them spend the weekend down in our neck of the woods.  I sure do love those kids and will miss them when they go.
She is hiding because I told her not to eat dirt... and she ate dirt!
Cousin Love!! These three play so good together!

Another side note- since I am so behind on my blog.  This last Wednesday (June 18) Mylie come over to spend the night and watch the movie in the park with me but it was rained out.  It was so much fun having her here; she went with us to story time at the library, made delicious banana bread and mowed my lawn.  Then Andi and the kids came down and we played at the park, went to sweet cow (yes, again, it's good) ,had a delicious dinner and then got to listen to (while we played) the concert in the park (Mat and Ben were off of work for this).  It is always so much fun when they come down!! That night Ben was getting Elizabeth ready for bed and she fell asleep in the bathtub- poor tired girl!!
