Homemade Christmas Wreath

I really wanted to try to make our little apartment feel a little bit ‘dressed up’ for the holidays so I have been searching for cheap Christmas decorations, but everything is so expensive. Then we saw that they were having a wreath making class on campus for only $7 (materials included) so I decided to go. It was a little sap messy and harder then I expected but I successfully made my first ever homemade wreath. We gave it a 12 hour bath in our bathtub (which made our apartment smell delightful) and it is now hanging outside our door. It adds a little bit of Christmas flair to our hectic college holiday lives!!

Quiet Study Area

I take headphones to school and I listen to music (on the internet) while I study, or else my mind wanders and I end up listening and watching all the people that go by in whatever library or study room that I happen to be in. Today I was in a large computer lab studying (I had been in there for about 20 minutes) when a guy tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I realized that my head phones were not plugged in all the way.... Meaning that while I was studying hard, trying not to disturb anyone, EVERYONE in the whole QUIET study room could hear my music the entire time. Why didn't someone tell me right away? Why did people just walk by smiling and say nothing? I was so embarrassed!

Thanksgiving Break

Ben and I stayed in Idaho for the Thanksgiving break. Monday and Tuesday we studied hard and got a TON of homework done. Wednesday afternoon we went to Idaho Falls, where Ben's grandma lives, to start our holiday break. In Ben's immediate family, the biggest thanksgiving tradition is baking pies. So Wednesday Grandma Lewis taught me how to make pie crust. It was so much fun to cook with her and learn all her tricks.


















Grandma Lewis is an amazing cook (and it is her love language, so she cooks A LOT) and she was able to teach me all her cooking skills throughout the break. It was so much fun to have the whole family in the kitchen, skirting around and trying to get things ready for thanksgiving dinner. We ended up eating around 2:00 and it was delicious. We had so much extra food that we had a second thanksgiving (almost comparable to size) Friday for lunch also.












The rest of the time was spent playing card games (which Ben and I both ended up beating the master, Uncle Dwight, at this own games) such as Golf and Shanghais. And we even watched some Football games (poor CU lost- but it was a good game).


















It was a great couple of days and it was so wonderful to relax and be with family. We are both so grateful for our families, both those we were with and the many we were not able to be with. Ben and I are so grateful for our health and that we were able to get through this holiday scrape, bruise and hospital-free. We are grateful for each other and the blessing of eternal families. We are especially grateful for the gospel, in the special holiday season, and the opportunity we have to know and share the gospel with those we know.

Practically Free, Bum-Like Homeless Fast Food Date Night

Saturday night (10:00-ish), we decided to go on a quick Fast Food run to quench one of Ben’s craves. We had a coupon for one specific place in town (the name will be withheld to prevent judgment and discrimination) to for buy one specialty burger and get one free (that’s a full meal for two). WHAT A DEAL!! So we decided to go there. No, we are not poor college students spending all of our grants and your tax dollars on fast food we have some gift cards for some Fast food places in Rexburg (Ben gets them for holidays/birthdays/ect because he is a fast food junkie and likes that more than candy, birthday cake or anything else).
So we went to ‘this place’ with our coupon, gift card (we only has $1.53 left) and all the change that we had in our car and ended up…43 cents short!! I was determined not to use our card (the only other form of ‘money’ we had) for 43 cents and especially not for Fast food (which is a luxury and something we really didn’t need) and so we began to search. We went out to the car (in freezing weather) and searched under, in and all around the seats for loose change (the car has never been cleaned so thoroughly); we (well I should say, I, Ben was too embarrassed to do this) walked around the parking lot looking for dropped change; we even drove across the street to a different fast food place and asked them if they could give us money off of their gift card, which they couldn’t (we didn’t just eat there because we didn’t have a coupon for there). Finally I got up the courage to ask two strangers who were walking buy if I could borrow some change- which isn’t too scary since we are in Rexburg and the odds of them being nice safe LDS college students is VERY high.
Finally we got the money we went in, got our burger and two free waters and sat down to eat our date night dinner. Then as we sat there, the only two in the restaurant (because it was so late), we heard the employees complaining about burning the fries. I jumped up and ran to the counter. “You know, it would be bad to throw those fries away, you can just give them to us! If you are going to throw them away anyway…we will eat burnt fries…” So, the manager made me swear I wouldn’t tell anyone (which, since I am not telling you the location, I do not think this breaches that deal) and they dumped the ENTIRE BASKET of overcooked fries on a tray and gave them to us. They were defiantly overcooked but they were free and that made them taste SO much better.
So we had a practically free, bum-like homeless wonderful Saturday Fast Food Date Night!!

Make-Over's

So I was attempting to do my homework and...got distracted. On iVillage you can do make-over’s with hair, glasses, make-up, ect. Here are some that I did of me.
Ben really likes the blonde one… he thinks that I should go blonde and REALLY likes the glasses. I think the red head looks most like something I would actually do (don’t worry I wont-and couldn’t ever get my hair to look like that) and the black hair is just dramatic and just looks creepy.

Act of Service

This morning as we left our house to go to school we noticed that someone had scraped the ice and snow off the windows of our car. It was such a sweet and thoughtful act of service and such a wonderful way to start off our day. I hope we can pass it on and do something wonderful for someone we come upon today.

First Snowfall In Rexburg

Yesterday, November 5, we had our first snow this season. It was VERY cold but really beautiful and refreshing. Like in Colorado, it melted on the roads in the morning and just sat on the grass as a reminder throughout the rest of the day. Oh, I love fall.

Halloween Party

Halloween night we went to our ward’s Halloween Party and had a blast. There was three legged races (which we didn’t do- due to Brea’s already lack of balance), cake-walks, donut-string races, thriller dance lessons, and more. It was all so much fun and it was a blast to see everyone dressed up in crazy costumes. We had so much fun!!

















I was the last one to get my donut of the string- but I got pretty dirty. Ben's donut actually dropped on my shirt but he just started eating it right off of my chest- haha..it was funny!

These are some pictures of the THRILLER. They taught the dance and surprisingly a lot of people got into it and did it. It was really funny to watch.

Our Halloween Costumes

A couple days before Halloween Ben decided that he wanted to be a Nintendo Wii controller. So we started devising a plan… in the end it was pretty plain (white, white and…white) but he looked pretty cool(a lot of people liked it). I didn’t know what I wanted to be, so I was just going to be a skeleton, but I didn’t have a black shirt so we went to DI and the only black shirt they had still (since they were almost empty- because it was Halloween) was an oversized sweatshirt. So I ended up being a really (heat) hot oversized (which kind of made it look 80’s) skeleton…with black slacks. We were defiantly an odd couple. But we dressed up, which is the point, and it was fun!

Pirates of Madison County

Ben and I had a chance to go to the BYU-Idaho Music Department’s 25th Annual Halloween Concert. Each year they choose a theme and do a big production, with a story, great music and exciting set/lights. This year the concert theme was, “Pirates of Madison County.” Captain Hook was the Symphony Orchestra conductor and he was competing against the Pirate King and his singing pirates (the Men’s Chorus) to get to the treasure. It was a great production full of humor and great music. Ben and I haven’t ever been able to attend the Halloween Concert (because we aren’t usually here in the fall) and we really enjoyed it.

RIP Cupcakes

For FHE this week Ben and I made Halloween cupcakes and took them to friends and people that we know. It was fun to be able to make them and be creative (although we were only creative once- in the idea and then made them the same- Ben didn’t want to actually decorate each cupcake individually). It was fun and a good way to spend Family Home Evening.

Who am I?

So you might remember a couple days back to my Star Wars ABC post when I made the commitment to share the ABC’s of myself to the world to show people, like my husband, the kind of person I am. However as I have pondered, prayed and contemplated I have found myself lost to find the true form of my ‘personal identity’ and I find myself wondering, “Who am I?”

If I had to characterize myself in High School I would have said I was over confident, cocky and obnoxiously outgoing. Early years of college I think I calmed but was still rather sociable and secure in myself. However now… I have no idea. I am not only lost socially but in my educational and career aspirations (which is not great because I graduate with my bachelors in 5 weeks), my hobbies, interests and life goals.
I am struggling to find out,
“Who do I want to be when I grow up?”

“What do I want to be when I grow up?”

“How do I want people to remember me? Do I care about how people remember me?”

Upset, by my new lack of understanding and direction I went to google for an answer to my predicament and typed in ‘what do I want to be when I grow up?’ It took me to an amplitude test, which I took, and quickly gave me the results which were that I would be a great ring master and should run away to the circus.


Since I am not very flexible and my sister-in-law is afraid of clowns (and I would love to keep her in my life) I have decided not to take that path. However, on a more serious note, I don’t know what to do. I cannot find a serious career, personality or amplitude test or survey to take to help narrow my ideas that does not cost money or require my address and all personal information. I don’t know where to look or what to do to find myself again.

Any suggestions?

Last night (while lying in bed, trying to fall asleep) we discussed the ranking of “who could beat up who” of the classic Hero’s.

Meeting Kynslee

Today Brea’s cousin Ally came over to show us her new baby girl, Kynslee. It was so great to see Ally and to hold Kynslee. Kynslee is only a month old but she is already so big. She has a perma-scowl but it is so cute. It was wonderful to see them both!

Star Wars

My family is an avid Star Wars family. Not only are the Stones ‘men’ fans of the movies but the sisters, nieces, nephews, pets, mother’s, and beyond. I believe I could quote the original three movies verbatim before I new my own address. When the ‘revamped’ version came out we could pin-point each and every change. Granted I am not as big of a fan of the first three movies, Star Wars still is a classic in my mind and I do still consider myself an avid fan!!

The other day as my husband got home from work and I was cooking dinner while watching TV. As he walked to the bedroom to change out of his work cloths, he glanced at what I was watching, his face quickly turned to surprise and shock as he proclaimed, “You’re watching Star Wars?”
“Yes, it is the fifth one, it was on TV. Cool, huh?” I shrugged off while continuing the meal prep.
“I didn’t know you even liked Star Wars!” He continued in his still shocked and slightly suspicious tone. It is hard to explain the moment that followed. Even now I think of it and my mind goes blank. So you must just pause, sit here for a moment with nothing, absolutely nothing in your mind, reading nothing and seeing nothing, ready go…

Keep going that was defiantly not awkward enough.

That feeling, that feeling of nothing, it is the feeling that hit me after my husband explained this. It is like the feeling that the wind was just kicked out of me, but painless. It is still hard to understand how my husband (whom I have known for almost 3 years) did not know that I liked Star Wars.

This phenomenon has made me think that maybe others (and possibly even myself) don’t really know who the real Breanne (Stones) Newson is. So I have decided to go through the ABC’s (it seemed like the most logical place to start) and find out who I am…stay tuned to learn the truth behind the ABC’s of Brea!

*I know it sounds elementary. But I am suffering from brain trauma- so please, no poking fun!!
