We had a fun jam packed Memorial Day weekend. Friday, Ben and I went to the Denver
Temple. We did sealing's, which we
almost never do, and it was nice to sit and quietly reflect on our marriage and
on the eternal promises of our family.
We then went out to eat at the Olive Garden, where we ate too much. Elizabeth has a great babysitter, they
painted nails and had pizza.
Saturday we were split into multiple directions as I headed
off to Comic Con and Ben and Elizabeth spent the day at the Boulder Creek
Festival. Ben and Elizabeth went with
the Forsyth's (Eric, Henry and Pepper) and they had a fun time. They were able to stay dry and duck in for
lunch when the weather got really bad.
Ben said he exhausted Elizabeth and maybe pushed her a little too far
because she had a hard time letting him leave her with a babysitter that
afternoon.
We got another babysitter because we were invited to go,
with our friends the Gee's, to a Rockies game that night. Ben picked me up at
Comic Con and we went straight to the stadium for our 7 game. It was a double
header that day so when we got there the first game was still playing, because
they had had a rain delay. So we got to
watch the last couple innings of that game.
Then there was another rain delay for our game and it didn't start until
9. We got to watch the first half of our
'ticketed' game before having to leave to get back for the babysitter. So we
were able to see a complete 9 innings- just of different games!
We had great seats, only 5 rows back behind the traveling team (Dogers). It was so great to be that close but it did
put us in the middle of the wrong cheering section but I think we held our own.
It was so much fun and with coats and ample amounts of hot chocolate, we were
able to stay warm and dry.
I had the chance to spend the day at Comic Con with some of
my girl friends. Online Comic Con is defined
as "a nerd fest featuring comic books, games, arts, movies, and various
pop culture. This is where you'll find the coolest and the hottest
actors/actresses as well as the biggest dorks and geeks in the world under one
roof." I am not that into comic
books, other than growing up with my nerdy brothers, but I could not pass up
the opportunity to be a super hero for a day!
The problem with that is that I am 7 1/2 months pregnant,
which severely limited my costume choices.
After mulling it over, and getting ideas from much bigger comic book
nerds, I decided to go as the Scarlett Witch, the only comic book character to
be pregnant. It was fun but pretty ridiculous
creating a costume and with the help of Mom and some bright red duct tape I was
able to pull off a semi-recognizable, if not slightly frumpy, Scarlett Witch. (Only the really intense comic book followers
knew who I was but that made me look super legit- so I was okay with that.)

At Comic Con we took pictures with many people dressed up,
went to some events and speakers and soaked up the 'nerdness'.
One of the best parts was that we got to go
to a Q&A with Sean Astin; the actor who plays Mikey (from Goonies), Rudy
(from Rudy) and Sam Wise Gamgee (from LOTR).
It was cool to see a movie star.
I am so glad that I have friends who are willing, if not
super eager, to go have this crazy experiences with me. (I got to check this
off of my bucket list- yay).
On Memorial Day, we spent the day as a family. It was so much fun to have Ben home with us! The biggest event of the day, literally biggest parts of the day was our trip to Target. While walking through Target, Ben asked if I knew I had a hole in my pants? I
told him yes- because I had recently sewed up a small hole in the
crotch. Half an hour later I took Elizabeth to the bathroom to change
her diaper and got a quick glance in the mirror- I had a gapping 8 inch
rip up the butt of my jeans. I was so embarrassed and asked Ben why he
didn't tell me and he responded, I did. We now have to define the
difference between a "hole" with a "butt revealing tear" in our home.
It was also wonderful to think about and celebrate the people who have fought and are fighting for our freedom in the armed forces. It is so interesting how something simplified for a child or communicated by a child can suddenly be so profound to me.We talked to Elizabeth about being thankful for our Heroes; it was a great day!
