Crazy Faces!!

Our camera has a front view, so you can see yourself while you take a picture. It is always so much fun to make faces and be goofy. Here are pictures of Alex, Melinda and Me on September 19th.

Here are some that Alex made!!

Ron't 70th Birthday!!

W e have had a lot of Birthday’s this month. One of them was Ron’s 70th birthday! We had a big family dinner (equip with ‘over the hill’ candles) and told Ron that he didn’t ask for anything so we didn’t get him anything. He didn’t mind, he was pretty content with his pies.
BUT the next day his secret present arrived, a ridding lawn mower (and snow plow).  When it was delivered we hid it behind the car and told him to come outside. He was excited, but as only Ron could, suppressed his overwhelming childish excitement. He was instructed how to do it, took one lap around the yard and still wanted to play with it- so he mowed all the lawns. It was fun to see him so happy and excited. Happy Birthday Ron!

A couple weeks later was Nedra's Birthday. It was so much fun celebrating with her.

Longmont Preparedness Fair

Mom and Dad got to participate in the Longmont Stake Preparedness Fair. I honestly did not know what to expect from a Preparedness Fair. I expected to see two to three tables set up in the gym with occasional members coming to check it out- boy was I wrong. This fair was publicized in the Longmont newspaper, there were signs on the streets and it welcomed everyone (members and nonmembers). The gym was full of booths (all coordinating in color), there were classes in rooms throughout the church and the parking lot was full of other displays.

Mom and Dad were in charge of the Food Storage portion. They had displays showing why to have food storage, how much is a 3 months, 6 months and year supply, ideas for storage (both how to store the food and where to store the food) and other facts about food storage preparedness. It was so cool to go see Mom and Dad in action (answering questions, ect) but I also learned a lot from the fair. I walked around and learned about water purification, bread making, gardening, Non-food emergency items, dry food canning and much more. It was so cool and I really learned a lot.

It's a Boy!

On September 15th we cleaned, arranged furniture, hung decoration, plated food and HAD A BABY SHOWER! Ben’s brother’s wife, Becky is expecting a little boy in October.  Rachel and Nedra wanted to throw her a Baby Shower and I went to help.   It was fun to get to talk to everyone and see all the great stuff that Becky got. It turned out being a really fun night!

Rockies Game

We went with a bunch of our friends to a Colorado Rockies Game. I honestly don’t remember who was playing because we just talked the entire time; interspersed with cheers, boos and dancing trying to get seem by the cameras.  It was really fun and we really enjoyed being with all our friends.

Cheesecake!!!

I made my first cheesecake! We got pans for our wedding and with them in storage and my lack of cooking confidence I never made one. On Wednesday I was in a great mood so I decided to make one.

I mixed it all up and got it in the pan and put it in to cook. After 40 minutes the timer went off, I went to check it and turned off the timer; it was still undone in the center so I put it in for 10 more minutes. Then 10 more minutes. Then 10 more minutes. After about 40 minutes of extra time I rechecked the recipe to make sure everything was measured correctly and asked Ben. He walked in, looked at the cheese cake and then said “Well, you have to turn on the oven!”

That’s right when I turned off the timer- I turned off the oven. Needless to say, I ended up cooking the cheese cake for 2 ½ hours. It still turned out good and was very creamy. I am proud to have added another dessert to my cooking repertoire.

Tree Pillow

I made a new pillow. I saw this pillow on Sarah’s blog and I thought it was so cute. I used iron on fabric glue and cut out all the leaves. I then sewed around each leaf (I put on a soft back so that the fabric wouldn’t bunch). The hardest part was sewing the pillow together (I didn’t leave myself a very good seam) and sewing the end up by hand. It was so much fun to make and looks good in our living room!

Here is an extra tutorial on it that Sarah sent me:

Wasp Nest!!

When we moved in there were wasp nests everywhere. I got some spray and we sprayed the living and non-living nests (we had 5-6 old nests and at least 2 living). The one nest that is under our window seal is stuck in between the brick and the house- so spraying didn’t kill them. Michael then sprayed the rest of the first can and one other on this nest. This is what I came out to last week. Needless to say we sprayed another can and have now bought expandable caulk to stick up there to try and fill in the nest- we will keep you posted!!

Our New House

So over the last couple months we have been trying to get the house put together; Cleaning to get rid of the dog, smoke and new carpet smell, cleaning to give me peace of mind, organizing and getting rid of unneeded junk, changing all the outlets (Ben's awesome), furniture shopping at craigslist and thrift stores and beautifying.

Andrea and Mom came over one day when I was overwhelmed and stressed and helped with the kitchen and other things. We even got the door painted.

So here is the final (for now) HOUSE!!!

Beautiful Colorado Skies

I always think that a Colorado sky is so beautiful- but this summer it has topped even my expectations.

There was an amazing lightning storm one night while I was driving home from my parents house. I kept trying to get a picture but lightning doesn't just stay still for a picture. So I put the camera on a time lapse mode (so the shutter was open for a couple seconds and therefore could catch the lightling) but I was driving and didn't take into account the lights I was passing. So I got some really cool pictures. (I did pull over and try it but still couldn't catch the lightning).

Experimenting with Fake Eye-Lashes

The Gibson’s sent us the most amazing house warming package; Ben got tools and fix-it stuff and I got spa stuff- AWESOME!! (Thanks Gibson Family!!)  The other day I was trying to apply the fake eye-lashes they sent. Having never worn fake eye-lashes I was at a slight loss. I got them on (a little gluey but on) and thought it was so funny I took pictures. I have found that when I try to take serious pictures of myself I always look weird or look unnatural (because the camera is so close). So instead of trying and failing at a good picture- I just took some weird ones, so that I was supposed to look weird.

My No Good Very Bad Day

I woke up on this wonderful Thursday Morning (September 1) thinking that all was well in the world. I woke up in a slightly heightened emotional state- which may have made everything look/feel worse then it needed.

I closed all the windows, made the bed, went running, started the sprinklers and went inside to take a shower. Our sprinklers have a timer on them, so they turn off after a certain amount of time. So I took a shower, got ready, read my book, ate breakfast all before I realized that the water was still on. I walked over to the window, to look out and check on the sprinkler when I noticed that the entire windowsill was completely covered with water, it was running down the wall and the floor was soaked. I quickly grabbed a towel to put on the sill and ran outside to turn off the water (the timer was broken). When I got inside the towel was soaked through and the water was continuing to flow down the wall. I went and got another towel and slowly cleaned up the mess (sopping up the carpet and putting a fan on it to dry). And so begins to no good very bad day.

Then I went to the computer to send out some resumes, check my e-mail, blog, ect when to my surprise it crashed (it crashed any time I tried to open anything or two things at a time). To preface this story I must explain that just a week earlier Ben’s computer died wiping the hard drive and our external hard drive. The extra computer that we got from the Davis’ refuses to turn on. So without my computer working- we had nothing (Ben managed to get my computer to work when he got home that night). So I went to the library and used their computers.

Then Ben called and said he had left something at home and asked if I would bring it to him at work (20 minutes away). I usually would not have thought second about doing this but on this no good very bad day it seemed like an extra burden and I cried all the way to his work.

The day prior to this no good very bad day we had friends over for dinner so there was half a pan of brownies (which we don’t usually have in the middle of the week). I was trying to eat said brownies to sooth my mood but they were sticking to the pan. As I tried to pry them out of the pan my hand slipped and I stabbed myself in the hand. I ran to the kitchen and got a paper towel to put pressure on my oozing palm and called Ben. The conversation went something like this, “Umm….Ben how deep do you have to be cut to go to the hospital?” “I don’t know…why?” “I just stabbed myself with a knife!”

Ben called Nedra and she came right over to see. She said she did not think it needed stitches but I should call my Mom to make sure. It just so happened that my Mom was driving home from Denver so she swung over. She said stitches were not necessary because of the angle of the cut (it did not open when I moved my fingers). But she made me wash it (with soap- aww) and helped me bandage it and ice it. Through the next couple of days I would experience severe pain in my palm and fingers, swelling, bleeding, bruising and all around unpleasantness.

Note: To heal my no good very bad wounds a friend invited me to go to yoga with her, it was so calming and relaxing (Thanks Emily). And Ben took the next day off; he made me breakfast, we went to see a movie and had a nice relaxing day together.
